I'm not a big fake tanner but new brand Isle of Paradise is seriously tempting. Don't get me wrong, I don't tan full stop. Sun beds are dangerous and I get far too hot and bothered to lounge for long on vacations. The trouble with fake tan for me is that I'm either allergic or it just looks fake on my fair skin tone. Somehow self tan always looks a little off. But new brand Isle of Paradise has convinced me that fake tan can actually look great and realistic enough to fool people into thinking I've been on vacation.
Tanning pro Jules von Hep has been bronzing celebrities and models for years, but the thing is that he'll often spray tan people a couple of days before a shoot or TV show and then spend time color-correcting with foundations and powders on the day of so the tan looked totally natural. Who knew? “I literally began to dream about blending green, peach and violet colors into self-tanning formulations to create super bright, even skin tones alongside real-looking tans, and that's where the journey began,” he says.
Lucky for us, Jules has gone and created a color-correcting tanning line that's super simple to use. The light shade with peach brightens and illuminates the skin, giving a subtle bronze glow. The medium shade contains green tones to neutralize red tones for a tan that looks golden, and the dark shade has violet to reduce yellow tones for a deeper tan that looks bright.
As for formulation, you can choose from a water that hydrates; drops, which you mix into your face and body serum or moisturizer for a more subtle tan; and mousse for the tanning pros.
The range also includes a Prep It ($22) spray to prep your skin, an Over It ($27) spray to remove tan, and an instant tan called Disco Tan ($22). For those with a beauty conscience, the products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free and organic.
I tried the Water in Dark. Being a natural redhead, I never go for a dark tan, but it looked so incredibly natural that I'm totally hooked.Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops Dark $28Shop
