As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know-tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we've tried. Whether it's a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you'll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
Confession time: I didn't start using eye cream until a few months ago. Partly because I never felt the need (thanks, Asian genes!)В and partly because I never really felt like eye creams did that much. But one unfortunate day last fall, I peered into the mirror and was aghast to see noticeable lines crinkling under my eyes. Horrified, I started what became a series of eye cream binges, trying everything in sight that promised to bring my eyes back to their wrinkle-less state. A brightening under-eye gel? Yes, please. A creamy, hydrating eye mask? Gimme, gimme. So, when new beauty brand Onomie's A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment ($32) came across my desk, promising to brighten and tighten my under-eye area, I took it home and tried it immediately. Made with a pure form of vitamin C called L-ascorbic acid, the product claims to gently stimulate collagen, prevent skin damage, and banish dark circles-i.e., everything I wanted in my life.
Later that night, I finished my p.m. skincare routine, squeezed the (cutely packaged) product onto my finger, and then proceeded to stare at it in shock. This was no eye cream-it was slightly iridescent and pale pink. Apparently, I had missed the part about Onomie being a line that's “serious skincare meets modern makeup.” I patted it under my eyes anyway, noticing the instant brightening effect. The next morning, I used it again, this time applying it under my eyes and smoothing my tinted moisturizer over it. The texture was unlike any eye cream, highlighter, or concealer I'd ever tried-light and airy, with an almost mousse-like feel. Along with L-ascorbic acid, ingredients like vitamins A, E, and B; sodium hyaluronate; and konjac root powder all work to brighten and tighten, while the light-reflecting finish gives you instant gratification. I've been using the highlighter-eye cream hybrid every morning, patting it under my eyes and even up around my brow bone. One word of caution: Make sure to pat and smooth the productВ completely, because it does have a tendency to settle into fine lines. Considering the fact that in clinical trialsВ 93% of women showed an improvement in fine lines and wrinkles after just eight weeks, I have high hopes. And in the meantime, I'm enjoying the fact that I've whittled my vast collection of eye creams, concealers, and highlighters into just one.В
Onomie's A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment is available for $32 at Onomie.com, along with its sister product, the Bright Concealing Elixir ($26).В
